The girls cross country team so far has shown great results with the four meets they’ve had. Madeline Rogers and Lilly Becker were the top two finishers along with strong efforts from the rest of the A team girls.
Kaytlynn Howard is one of the coaches and has been for the last four years. She also teaches math on the Pathfinders team. Coach Howard is amazed by how many more people are in the cross country program compared to last year. There were two girls on the cross country team last year and they have now gained 14 girls this year.
“The runners are doing great. We are having a great season,” Howard said ”Madeline Rodgers as a seventh grader is doing really good.”
Madeline Rogers is on the Trailblazers team. This is her first year of running cross country. She has placed fourth in one of her meets and that is her best placing so far. One of her personal goals is to keep making it to the top 10.
“What encouraged me to do cross country was because I like running but the main reason is because I’m doing it to help with my speed in soccer,” Rogers said.
Lilly Becker is a seventh grader on the Pathfinders team. This is her first year ever doing cross country. She did cross country to help keep in shape for other sports. She set her own personal goals to continue to get better.
“I like the leg muscles,” Becker said, “My goal is to be able to run 1 ½ miles in a shorter amount of time than the last.”
Along with Madeline and Lilly, seventh grader Eva De La Rosa says that one of the best things about cross country was gaining new friends and strengthening existing friendships. Seventh grader Violet Adams also said that the coaches taught them to stay at a consistent speed to jog the whole time then sprint to the end.
The cross country team will finish the season with a few more meets which include the Bridger Stampede and the city championships.
