According to Coach Rumpel and Coach Howard, this cross country season was good and successful. However if you missed it, here’s a recap.
On both sides of cross country, there was continuous growth. For the girls side Trinity Huges showed great improvement and on the boys side Jared Fox did as well.
“Trinity Hughes on the girls side continuously improved just about every meet,” Rumpel said. “For the boys Jared Fox made significant gains from last year as a 7th grader on the B team to an A team runner this year.”
Girls coach Howard and boys coach Rumpel were both very satisfied with this year’s season.
“The cross country season was great! I was thrilled to see more girls join the team this year.” Howard said.
Rumpel felt a similar way, “Extremely happy, 90% of our runners improved 30 seconds or more from the beginning of the season to the end.”
Both coaches explain that the girls Independence city championship meet was an extreme highlight of the season.
“The Girls A team won the City Championship meet,” Howard said. “Each girl got an individual medal and as a team, they earned the traveling trophy that will be displayed in the trophy case in the cafeteria.”
Jared Fox is in his second year doing cross country. Fox has progressed from B team to A team.
“The transition from B team to A team was hard for me because the A races were very hard compared to the B races.” Fox said.
Violet Adams is a 7th grader on the pathfinder team. This is her first year on the cross country team and she looks forward to joining next year. Adams is happy with the season and made good accomplishments.
“Learning to pace myself was something I accomplished and that I was super proud of.” Adams said.
If running is a hobby that interests you and you missed the opportunity to join cross country, don’t fret. There are many more running activities accessible to you. The track and field season begins in march. The cross country coach at the high school, Coach Hinckley, supervises an after school running club. This starts in mid November and goes through the start of track 2:45-4pm.
