This year, B Team Football has had many ups and downs, their record stands at 1-1-2. They’ve beaten Ray Pec East and lost to Campbell. They tied with Pleasant Lee and Grain Valley.
Head coach, Sam Bennett is a science teacher at Fort Osage High School. Bennett uses their performance in the game to determine what he will focus on for each practice.
“Time is a limited resource so we have to decide what we’re needing to invest our time in and what we can get out of that time for our team,” Bennett said. “If we struggle on offense one week we need to work more time there the following week.”
Brennan Leeds is an eighth grader on the Voyager team, this is his second year playing football. He’s a running back and safety. During the Pleasant Lee game he scored a touchdown.
“I liked playing Pleasant Lee in the B game because that was the closest game I have ever played and it was fun being in that position,” Leeds said.
Isaac Wilson is a seventh grader on the Pathfinder team, he’s a wide receiver and linebacker. This is his third year playing football. Wilson had an interception return in the Ray-Pec game for a winning touchdown.
“I’m trying to achieve more catches and touchdowns on offense and in the future make varsity and get a scholarship,” Wilson said.
Coach, Jamie Thieman, is an eighth grade social studies teacher for the Pioneer team, this is his eighth year coaching football and his first year coaching here.
“It’s been going awesome, I really like it here,” Thieman said, “The kids are great, the other coaches are great, the season’s going well, so no complaints. I love it.”
Cayden Levy is an eighth grader on the Pioneer team who is a tight end and defensive end and has been playing since first grade. Levy believes that keeping a motivated mindset is important.
“I keep my team motivated by keeping my head and their heads high and telling them we have other games that we can still win,” Levy said.
Isaac Underwood is an eighth grader on the Voyager team, he is a linebacker and a tight end. This is his first year playing football while also balancing cross country at the same time.
“As for dual sporting events,” Underwood said, “It worked out pretty well in my favor, the schedule was laid out so that after every Monday meet there was an A/B game, so I was eligible to go to every meet and game.”
There are 91 boys and 1 girl playing football , 41 are eighth graders and 51 are seventh graders.
