The play ‘Whole Latte love’ was performed by students on February 20 and February 21. It was directed by Amber Rumpel and Kaitlin Long.
Written by Todd Wallinger, the play involves a coffee shop owner, Isla, selling specially blended coffees with magical powers. Problems arise when the new employee Shelly is tasked with covering the store while Isla looks for ways to pay her three months of back rent. Unfortunately when a health inspector arrives to check out the cafe, Shelly removes the signs noting the magical blends and gives customers the wrong brew.
Theatre Arts teacher and play director Amber Rumpel has directed six plays for the school. She chose this play because she thought it sounded fun, and felt they would really like it..
“One of my favorite things is always watching them backstage. The kids all do warm up activities so they don’t get too nervous. And everyone becomes friends and it’s like they just become a big family for the cast”, Rumpel said.
Lacey Beckner is an eighth grader on the Voyager team and played the lead as Isla. Isla is the owner of the cafe.
“I really liked the thrill of being on stage and the people who were there,” Beckner said.
Kara Jay is an eighth grader on the Voyager team and really loved playing the part of Anne who works for the bank that is considering giving Isla a loan. Jay feels she could have done a better job on the first night of the performance which happened to be a snow day.
“I would probably change our first performance, I messed up my lines pretty badly,” Jay said.
Choir teacher and play director Kaitlin Long has worked on two plays, and two musicals with Rumpel. She noted that there were some details that they didn’t get time to work out due to the snow days.
“It’s been a blast so far,” Long said. “Even with losing a bunch of rehearsals, the students did a great job! We were very proud of them.”
